Will of Jenkin Vawer, 20th December 1614

In the name of God: Amen: The twentieth day of December in
the year of our Lord God 1 thousand six hundred and fourteen I Jenkyn Vawer of the city
of Bristol, merchant being weak in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be
therefore given to Almighty God do make and ordain this my last will and testament
in manner and form (form) following That is to say first I commend my soul into the hands of
Almighty God my maker hoping assuredly through the only merit of mine only Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ to be made partaker of life everlasting And my body I Commend to
the earth whose it was made to be buried in sure sort as to mine Executrix and
under-named shall be thought fit and convenient And as concerning such worldly goods as it
hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I do dispose and bestow in manner and form
following That is to say Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my two sons William Vawer
and John Vawer to each of them four score pounds appiece of them in money to be immediately
employed by my said overseers hereunder named to the best profit that may arise thereof and to
Johane Vawer the sum of four score pounds in money to be paid unto her at the day of her
marriage or at her age of seventeen years which of them shall first happen notwithstanding
my will and meaning is that the said four score pounds be bequeathed to my said daughter
shall be forthwith paid unto my said overseers hereunder named and by them to be em-
ployed to the best benefit or profit of my said Daughter and to be paid unto her with the
profit thereof when she shall accomplish her said age of seventeen years or at the
day of her marriage as aforesaid provided always and my will and meaning is that if
it shall please Almighty God to take out of this mortal life either of my said sons before
before he shall accomplish his said age of one and twenty years and being unmarried or aforesaid
Daughter before the days of her marriage or her said age of seventeen years that then the
parts or portion of him her or them whosoever shall remain and come to him her or them
which shall survive and to be paid as aforesaid provided likewise and my further will and
meaning is that if it shall please Almighty God to call out of this world all my said
children before they or any of them shall accomplish their several ages aforesaid or be
married that then half of all the said portions unto them severally given as afore-
said shall remain unto the children of my brother Thomas Vawer to be equally divided be-
tween them and the other half unto Johane my wife The residue of all my goods and
chattels moveable and unmoveable and all my whole estate not hereby given or bequeathed my
debts and legacies being paid and my funerals discharged I give and bequeath unto my said
loving wife Johane Vawer whom I make and ordain my full and whole executrix of this my
last will and testament And I do ordain and appoint my said brother Thomas Vawer and
my Brother in Law William Barlow to be mine overseers thereof desiring them as ever they
loved me to be careful for the good of my poor children and loving brothers in law
unto my wife in witness whereas I have hereunto set my hand and seal and pronounced the
same to be my last will and testament the day and year above written : Jenkin Vawer These
