Richard was the first son and heir of Thomas Bennet of Clapcot and Agness Molyns. The Molyns family has a very long and distinguished aristocratic history.
Richard's Brother Thomas Bennet - third child of Thomas and Agness - became Sheriff of London in 1594 and was Lord Mayor of London in 1603, being Knighted on the 24th July of that year.
