Charles did not marry, and had no children. He was killed in action in the First World War on the first day of the battle of the Somme. His body was not recovered. Details are available on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site. VAWER, Charles, Private, No.21874, served with the York and Lancaster Regiment. His memorial is cited on the Thiepval War Memorial described as being on Pier and Face 14 A and 14 B.
