Anne was the second wife of William Vawer Merchant. Her marriage entry for St. Nicholas' Church, Bristol records the date as 23rd July 1587 and that she was a widow at that time
Her record on IGI records her name as Ane Garrit. This is the result of a transcription error (and the handwriting of the parish clerk). In his will William clearly states that Sir John Bennet is his brother-in-law. Her parents in law would therefore have been Richard Bennet of Wallingford, and his wife Elizabeth Tisdale.
The Bennet family were most distinguished, Ann and William's grand nephew, Charles, becoming the first Earl Tankerville. See Collins's Peerage of England under Bennet, Earl of Tankerville.
We have so far been unable to trace the Bennet first husband of Anne. The most likely brothers of Sir John to fit would seem to be Richard, born 1557 or Edmund, born 1567, for whom we have no death date.
