Richard's siblings were

We currently have little knowledge of Richard's life, but we do have a copy of his will, made on first February 1616 (1617 our date) which was proved two months later on 4th April 1617. The transcript below was made by GDV, JMW and KH. We have retained the seventeenth century spellings in the original text for interest, and the lines correspond to those of the original. We cannot reproduce the original here for copyright reasons. Items in [] are additions made by us for clarity.


The Will of Richard Vawer (1593 - 1617)

In the name of God Amen. The first daye of
Februarie Anno 1616. I Richard Vawer beinge sicke and weake in Body but in
good and perfect memorie thanks be given to Almightie God, doe make this my last
Will and Testament in manner and forme followinge, I give and bequeath my Soule
into the hands of Almightie God my Creator with sure and certeine confidence that
it shall live with Him in Eternall Liffe in heaven through the merritts of Christ my
Saviour and Redeemer, Allsoe I bequeath my body to the earth from whence
it came to bee buried with confidence that it shall rise at the last day to enioy
eternal happiness , And for my body to bee buried where it shall please my
friends , Item I give and bequeath unto my cozin John Thorpe my Brother’s second
sonne the Tenement which they gave mee which lyeth at Stosett [?] my father
hath the writtens[??]which Mr .Cummings gave mee. Item I bequeath unto Richard
Thorpe a silver gilt spone [spoon] which is in my littell trunke. Item I bequeath unto
my Brother James Vawer my sword and dager with my spere, Item I bequeath
unto my Brother [in-law William] Barlow my ring which I wear uppon my finger, And to
my Sister [Margaret] Barlow a payer [?pair] of knyfes the handells of them is the picture of
Adam and Eve Thay are in my trunke with other knifes. Item I bequeath unto
Bartholemew Hering[?] a gilten prayer book which is new and is in my Trunke
Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Warr the daughter of my cozin John Warr
Twentie pounds but her mother shall have the benifitt of it duringe her life.
Twentie Li [pounds] shall bee paid by my executor unto my cozin Anne Warr a month after
hee hath Rcd [received] soe much money. Item I bequeath unto Mathew ??[name not known] the servant
at my Fathers Twentie shillings. Item I bequeath five pounds to be given
unto the poore people of the P[arish] Item I give and bequeath unto my Brother John Vawer
Forty pounds. And doe hereby give and bequeath unto him All the rest of my
goods and chattels whatsoever kind soe make him my sole and only Executor of
this my last Will and Testament for witness whereof I have hearr unto putt
