James Goodway appears to have parted from mother Mary, as there is no father entered on either Hannah's or Wilhelmina's birth certificates, and they are registered in her maiden name. Hannah and her sister Wilhelmina adopted their Mother's husband's name "Goodway" when they were in the Bishop Auckland Union Workhouse, sometime before 1881. We suspect that by this time Mary had died.
